Background

Founded in 1979 by social activist B. M. Goudati, inspired by freedom fighter Dr. N. S. Hardikar, RDS began as a voluntary initiative of Seva Dal members to address social barriers to development. Officially registered in 1982 under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act and later under the FCRA, RDS grew into a secular, non-political, non-profit organization working across Karnataka.

Over four decades, RDS has implemented 96 projects, reaching over 24 lakh beneficiaries in 15 drought-prone districts. Supported by State and Central Governments, the World Bank, NABARD, CSR initiatives, and foreign donors, the organization addresses women’s empowerment, water and sanitation, environment, watershed management, children’s welfare, health, and skill development.
